Gösta Ohlins Vokalensemble
Gösta Ohlin, conductor

Gösta Ohlin was born in 1921 in the Wärmland town of Filipstad, he studied at Royal College of music in Stockholm between 1946 and 49. After graduating he spent four years as an music adviser to the Swedish Mission Federation, then when moving to Gothenburg in 1954 he was employed as Church musician as well as teacher of singing, choir singing and conducting at the College of Music in Gothenburg. In 1971 he chose to concentrate only on his teaching. A few years prior he had initiated the founding of the Music College Chamber Choir, an ensemble he led til 1987.

On this recording You can hear his own "Gösta Ohlins Vokalensemble", a chamber choir created to be a virtuoso instrument. It's 25 members are mainly hand picked from a rooster of local musicians, music teachers, church musicians, singing coaches and choir leaders. Their range of repertoire is vast, including both religious and secular works. Ranging from the Renaissance to our times, not only from the Nordic countries, but from all the grate choir nations, England and Germany and in later years with an addition of music from Eastern Europe and Russia.
