Brunnsbo Girls Choir
Anne Johansson - Conductor

Traditional Swedish and international Christmas song

THE BRUNNSBO CHOIR was formed in the autumn 1980 and consists solely of female voices. New members are recruited from the Brunnsbo School in Gothenburg when they have completed their compulsory school education. When the choir was first formed the members were former students who attended the Brunnsbo School's "normal" classes, but since 1989 members are recruited from the school's special music classes.

The choir has made several tours and take' part in choir competitions. A concert tour of the USA was undertaken in the spring 1992 during which the choir sang in the Swedish communities there. In the autumn the same year, the choir competed in the international choir competition of Tolosa, Spain, and won fourth prize in the 'I.adies Choir' class.

The choir has its busiest period just before and during the Christmas period, when it is often engaged in several places it and around Gothenburg for the traditional Lucia celebrations as well as giving Christmas concerts. Some of the songs in the choir's Christmas repertoire are included in this recording.

THE CHOIR was formed by Anne Johansson at the Brunnsbo School, separate to the school's normal activities. In addition to being a music teacher at Brunnsbo, where she works with the special music classes, she also teaches at the Music Department at the University of Gothenburg.
