His family moved to Sweden in 1970. His first studies in composition were with Lars-Erik Rosell prior to returning to the United States in 1985. There, he studied composition with Jean Eichelberger-Ivey at the Peabody Conservatory. Having received his Bachelor of Music degree, he went on to study for a Master of Arts with Ralph Shapey at University of Chicago. Since 1992, he has been working in Sweden as a composer. Nelson's music is pulse-oriented. It has also been described as minimalistic in character (more post-minimalistic, actually, not to be confused with early minimalism), and as containing a slightly neo-Romantic vein as well. (translation by Linda Schenck) Svante Henryson, a musician whose solo album debut "enkidu" evokes worlds as disparate as those of Charlie Haden, the Indian classical masters Massive Attack, Arvo Pärt and Jimmy Page. Born in Stockholm and raised in Northern Sweden, Henryson claims amongst his earliest influences Elton John, Bo Hansson's "The Lord of the Rings", and the young female double bass player of a local folk group. The latter's influence on the young Henryson was clearly profound as his early studies led to a year's study at the Academy of Music in Prague and a role as Principal Bass player with the Oslo Philharmonic. That he should trace a parallel musical path as an electric bass player from political rock to jazz fusion and ultimately to three years in America as sideman to the Paganini of heavy metal guitar, Yngwie Malmsteen, is a testament to both Henryson's individual talent and his instinctive eclectisism. (by Anne-Marie Nicol) Fredrik Högberg (b. 1971) grew up in Svedala, near Malmö, Sweden. He studied composition with Per Grundberg at Framnäs Folk High School from 1987 to 1991, and with Professor Jan Sandström at the Piteå College of Music from 1990 to 1997. One of Högberg's most outstanding works is "Subadobe" (1993), for solo trombone. It is frequently performed, not least by trombonist Christian Lindberg. Högberg is also interested in the pedagogical potential of composition, and has developed methods and material, in collaboration with Jan Sandström, for the first community music school composition classes for children, known as the "Luleå model".
